Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid

The purpose of the unit within this qualification is to obtain the knowledge and practical skills necessary to address several paediatrician first-aid situations. This qualification offers the students emergency first-aid skills needed for work in the child's workforce.
This qualification is intended for individuals wishing to become a first aid paediatrician in the workplace with responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. The qualification is aimed at learners who are already working or preparing to work in the business and meets the paediatric first aid requirements laid down in the early years Foundation Stage.

Who is the course for?

The Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid is ideal for those who care for children, such as: parents, guardians, grandparents or those with children and who wish to learn the essential skills in first-aid paediatrics.
This qualification gives learners the opportunity to develop the basic skills and knowledge necessary for dealing with a range of first-aid emergency situations that can arise during childcare.

Course Entry Requirements

  • There is no specific requirement to start this course
  • Learner must be 19 years or older at the beginning of the course
  • A basic English level may be required for this programme

Duration

Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work

  • Guided Learning Hours (GLH):   6 hours
  • Total Qualification Time (TQT):   7 hours

How is the Course Assessed?

The Center assesses all units within this qualification internally. Qualifications are referenced criterion, based on achieving all of the specified learning outcomes.
To achieve a 'pass' for a unit, learners must provide evidence to show that they have met all of the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all of the evaluation criteria. The Assessor makes a judgement that the learners have met the assessment criteria successfully.
The Assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the overall achievement of the judgement of the learners has been achieved.

Course Progression

Once the course is successfully completed, The candidates may progress to:

  • Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF)
  • Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
  • Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (FAW)
  • Level 3 Award in First Aid Response

To receive the Level 3 award in emergency paediatric first aid, learners must obtain a minimum of 1 credit:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
  • Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are unresponsive
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are choking
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is suffering from shock
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries
