Level 3 Award in Paediatric First aid
This qualification enables students to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for dealing with a variety of first-aid situations, illnesses, injuries and cases of emergency in childcare.
The qualification for first-aid paediatrics is available for people working in children's care. This paediatric first aid course was specifically designed to meet the requirements for paediatric first aid in the legal framework for the early year of its foundation.
Who is the course for?
This qualification is intended for individuals wishing to become a first aid paediatrician in the workplace with responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. The qualification is aimed at learners who are already working or preparing to work in the business and meets the paediatric first aid requirements laid down in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Course Entry Requirements
- It is also advised that learners have a minimum of level 1 in literacy to enable them to complete the assessment.
- Learner must be 19 years or older at the beginning of the course
- A basic English level may be required for this programme
Duration
Level 3 Award in Paediatric First aid
- Guided Learning Hours (GLH): 12 hours
- Total Qualification Time (TQT): 15 hours
How is the Course Assessed?
The Center assesses all units within this qualification internally. Qualifications are referenced criterion, based on achieving all of the specified learning outcomes.
To achieve a 'pass' for a unit, learners must provide evidence to show that they have met all of the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all of the evaluation criteria. The Assessor makes a judgement that the learners have met the assessment criteria successfully.
The Assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the overall achievement of the judgement of the learners has been achieved.
Course Progression
Once the course is successfully completed, The Candidates may progress to:
- Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
- Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (FAW)
- Level 3 Award in First Aid Response
To receive the Level 3 award in paediatric first aid, learners must obtain a minimum of 2 credits:

The Learner will:
- Understand the role and responsibility of the paediatric first aider
- Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is choking
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock
- Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with bites, stings and minor injuries
- Be able to administer first aid to an infant and a child with a suspected fracture
- Be able to administer first aid to an infant and a child with head, neck or back injury
- Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
- Understand how to administer emergency first aid to an infant and a child with an acute medical condition or sudden illness
- Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who is experiencing the effects of extreme heat and cold
- Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who has sustained an electric shock
- Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with burns or scalds
- Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child who has been poisoned
- Understand how to provide first aid to an infant or child with anaphylaxis
