Level 1 Award in Health and Social Care

This qualification will prepare students for further training and enable them to develop knowledge and/or skills in the fields of health, social services and the environment of children and young people. This qualification will develop knowledge and awareness of the types of healthcare, social care and care services for children and young people. These include the roles played by employees, from principles and values to health and safety to cooperation with others.
Who is the course for?
This course is suitable for anyone considering a career in health and/or social care with adults or early years and childcare sectors.
Course Entry Requirements
- Learner must be 19 years or older at the beginning of the course
- A basic English level may be required for this programme
Duration
Level 1 award in Health and Social care
- Guided Learning Hours (GLH): 60 hours
- Total Qualification Time (TQT): 70 hours
How is the Course Assessed?
The Center assesses all units within this qualification internally. Qualifications are referenced criterion, based on achieving all of the specified learning outcomes. To achieve a 'pass' for a unit, learners must provide evidence to show that they have met all of the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all of the evaluation criteria. The Assessor makes a judgement that the learners have met the assessment criteria successfully. The Assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the overall achievement of the judgement of the learners has been achieved.
Course Progression
Once the course is successfully completed, The Candidates may progress to:
- Level 2 qualifications in health and social care
To receive the Level 1 award in Health and Social care, learners must obtain a minimum of 7 credits:

Group A:
The Learner will:
- Know about health needs.
- Know how health is affected by different factors
- Understand that individuals have different health needs
- Know what health care and social care is available for individuals
Group B:
Unit 1
The Learner will:
- Know that individuals have personal care needs
- Know the skills and personal qualities needed for the personal care of others
- Understand why it is important to follow the health and social care setting’s procedures when providing personal care
Unit 2
The Learner will:
- Know about learning experiences for children and young people
- Be able to demonstrate work related skills required for providing learning experiences for children and young people
- Be able to assess own work-related skills in providing learning experiences for children and young people
Unit 3
The Learner will:
- Know the risks to health for a chosen area of work
- Understand how to maintain good health in a chosen area of work
Unit 4
The Learner will:
- Know employee ‘rights’ and ‘responsibilities’ in a place of work
- Know how the rights of individuals are supported in a place of work
- Know the responsibilities of employers in a place of work
Unit 5
The Learner will:
- Know about the work placement company or organisation
- Know what is expected of the learner during the work placement
- Be able to set goals to help the learner get the most out of the work placement
Unit 6
The Learner will:
- Know about creative, play and leisure activities for children and adults
- Be able to use work-related skills required to provide children’s and adults’ creative, play and leisure activities
Unit 7
The Learner will:
- Know that effective teamwork requires team members to behave in certain ways
- Know how to contribute to a team task
- Know the roles and responsibilities of team members (including their own) in relation to a given task
- Be able to work positively as a member of a team
- Be able to review own performance as a member of a team
Unit 8
The Learner will:
- Know about own health needs
- Know that individuals have different health needs
- Know what social care is
- Know factors that affect health
